UN Global Design System X Covid-19 | Graphic Design

2020 was an atypical year for everyone. The coronavirus has come to change most of the habits of human coexistence.

Considering the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, the UN and the WHO, in partnership with TBWA Worldwide, started a project to raise awareness about the essential prevention methods for the new disease.

The main questions were: how to communicate directly with everyone, respecting and understanding all the cultural and linguistic differences. The UN suggested six topics: Personal hygiene, Physical distancing, Knowing the Symptoms, Breaking the myths, and Spreading Kindness and Solidarity.

In partnership with the graphic designer Gabriel Menezes and TBWA Global Chief Design Officer Bruno Regalo, we began our production by developing a grid from where the icon design would begin. Through this process, we established the color palette and the typographic family. After that, we researched similar signs that would communicate with cultures worldwide.

The icons designed have fulfilled their primary function of communicating and having applicability in many media. It is a direct form of communication, also with a light appearance and attractive colors.

Looking closely at the icons' design, we check the dotted lines. These separations have reinforced one of the main recommendations for Covid-19 prevention: physical distancing.
